Basketball Recap: Decatur Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Dar Mcjimpson Jr and Jorge Martinez

Decatur was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They might have been a little too into the holiday spirit, gifting the Auburn Mountainview Lions an easy 85-59 victory. While losing is never fun, the Golden Gators can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Washington basketball rankings (they are ranked 298th, while the Lions are ranked 26th).

Jorge Martinez and Dar Mcjimpson Jr certainly did their best on Thursday to avoid the loss. Martinez went 5 of 9 en route to 16 points along with six rebounds and four steals, while Mcjimpson Jr posted 19 points. The game was Martinez's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Sam Corbett, who put up six points and ten rebounds.

Even though they lost, Decatur smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in ten consecutive matches dating back to last season.

Leading Auburn Mountainview to victory were Sebastian Arius and Sudan Luok. Arius dropped a double-double on 26 points and 11 boards, while Luok almost dropped a double-double on 18 points and nine boards. Those 11 boards gave Arius a new career-high. Beckett Jones was another key player, going 5 of 7 on his way to 12 points and five boards.

Decatur's loss dropped their record down to 0-6. As for Auburn Mountainview, the win keeps them at an undefeated 7-0.

Decatur wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 47-43 victory against Mt. Rainier on the 30th. As for Auburn Mountainview, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 46-36 win against Jackson on the 21st.
