Softball Recap: Berne Union Victorious

Berne Union's game on Saturday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Saturday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Bishop Ready Silver Knights 8-6. That's more bragging rights for the Rockets, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Reese Besco spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered six runs (all of which were unearned) on six hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Berne Union got a big performance out of Rylee North, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run. That's the most stolen bases North has posted over her last 11 matchups. The team also got some help courtesy of Josilyn Hedges, who earned one RBI, two runs, and three stolen bases.

Berne Union's victory bumped their record up to 13-10. As for Bishop Ready, they dropped their record down to 6-14 with the defeat, which was their fifth straight on the road.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Berne Union will take on Delaware Christian in a tournament on Monday. The Rockets' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Eagles have averaged an impressive 10.7 runs per game this season. As for Bishop Ready, they will be taking part in a tournament against Marion-Franklin at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
