Baseball Recap: Nutley Comes Up Short

The Nutley Raiders didn't have quite enough to beat the Lyndhurst Golden Bears on Saturday and fell 3-2.

Nick Gaccione was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out eight batters over 6.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits.

On the hitting side, Nutley saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was John Machtemes, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one double.

Nutley dropped their record down to 15-9 with the defeat, which was their third straight on the road. As for Lyndhurst, they now have a winning record of 12-11.

Looking ahead, Nutley will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Caldwell at 4:30 p.m. The Chiefs' pitching crew has only allowed 2.6 runs per game this season, so the Raiders' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Lyndhurst, they will head out to take on Cresskill at 4:15 p.m. on Monday.
