Baseball Game Preview: Maywood Academy Nighthawks vs. Elizabeth Bulldogs

For the second straight game, Maywood Academy will face off against Elizabeth. The Nighthawks will venture away from home to face off against the Bulldogs at 1:15 p.m. on Thursday.

Having struggled with nine losses in a row, Maywood Academy turned things around against Elizabeth on Monday. They blew past the Bulldogs 9-1. That eight run margin sets a new team best for the Nighthawks this season.

Matthew Hernandez made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out 12 batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

In other batting news, Maywood Academy got a big performance out of Gabriel Soto, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases and one run. That's the most stolen bases Soto has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Josue Rodriguez, who went 2-for-4 with one triple and one run.

Maywood Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .541. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in four consecutive matches.

Elizabeth is on a nine-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-11. As for Maywood Academy, their win was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-8 and their overall record up to 3-12.
