Basketball Recap: Newell Takes a Loss

Newell was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were beaten by the Philip Scotties 61-30. The Irrigators lost against the Scotties in their previous head to head back in January of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was even wider than the 58-49 score last time.

Philip was led to victory by Drew Terkildsen and Fayth Martin. Terkildsen went 9 of 17 en route to 25 points and eight boards, while Martin went 5 for 11 on her way to 15 points and five steals. Terkildsen's afternoon made it four games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Kale Peterson, who posted eight points and seven rebounds.

Newell's loss dropped their record down to 6-8. As for Philip, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 8-3.

Newell won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Faith at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Philip, they will face off against Sisseton at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
