Basketball Recap: De'asia Bridges' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Spartanburg over James F. Byrnes

Spartanburg lost against James F. Byrnes back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Spartanburg Vikings took a 53-47 hit to the loss column at the hands of the James F. Byrnes Rebels. The Vikings have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Spartanburg lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being De'Asia Bridges, who went 5 of 9 on her way to 11 points along with eight boards and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaylee Nelson, who went 5 for 11 on her way to 11 points.

Even though they lost, Spartanburg smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 17 consecutive matchups dating back to last season.

James F. Byrnes' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Ellison Silver led the charge by putting up 18 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaida Johnson, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 11 boards.

Spartanburg now has a losing record at 7-8. As for James F. Byrnes, they pushed their record up to 9-5 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season.

Spartanburg will welcome Gaffney at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Gaffney knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past 11 contests -- so hopefully Spartanburg likes a good challenge. As for James F. Byrnes, they will head out to challenge Dorman at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. James F. Byrnes is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 59 points per game this season.
