Preview: Marcos de Niza Padres vs. Poston Butte Broncos
Marcos de Niza has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will face off against The Poston Butte Broncos at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Arizona (Marcos de Niza is ranked 87th, while Poston Butte is ranked 68th).
Last Friday, Marcos de Niza suffered a tough 44-20 defeat at the hands of Eastmark. Marcos de Niza was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 28-0.
Marcos de Niza's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of DJ Drew, who rushed for 82 yards on only nine carries, and Antoine Anderson who rushed for 99 yards and a touchdown on only eight carries. Anderson was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 68 yards.
Meanwhile, Poston Butte got themselves on the board against Gila Ridge on Friday, but Gila Ridge never followed suit. They claimed a resounding 59-0 victory over the Hawks at home. Considering Poston Butte has won three games by more than 41 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Poston Butte's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jaylen Brooks, who rushed for 69 yards and a touchdown. Quenton Jones also deserves a mention for his punt return touchdown.
Marcos de Niza now has a losing record at 4-5. As for Poston Butte, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-4.
Marcos de Niza was taken down by Poston Butte 39-11 when the teams last played back in October of 2022. Can Marcos de Niza avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
