Softball Recap: Riverside Generals vs. First Coast Buccaneers
Riverside had lost 19 straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 2-12 to make it 20. They lost 15-0 to the First Coast Buccaneers. The Generals were not able to make up for their defeat to the Buccaneers from their previous meeting back in March of 2023.
As for First Coast, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-13 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games.
For First Coast's part, Lynneisa Whittington was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). Whittington has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Those two runs gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Carmen Overstreet, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024. Lexi Gates was another key player, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Coming up, Riverside will take on Stanton at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Generals' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Blue Devils have averaged an impressive 12.1 runs per game this season. First Coast does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
