Basketball Recap: Portage Beats West Shamokin for Their Fourth Straight Win

Portage entered their tilt with West Shamokin on Friday with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. They enjoyed a cozy 47-33 victory over the West Shamokin Wolves. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 54-48 back in January.

Portage's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Bode Layo, who went 6 of 11 to rack up 15 points and eight rebounds. Layo's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least 15 points. Another player making a difference was Owen Gouse, who went 8 for 14 on his way to 17 points.

Portage's victory bumped their record up to 17-5. As for West Shamokin, their loss dropped their record down to an identical 17-5.

Portage and West Shamokin should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Pennsylvania Rankings. Portage (ranked 126th) will meet Windber (ranked 342nd) at 7:15 p.m. on Monday. Portage is looking to tack on another W to their six-game streak on the road.
