Softball Recap: Porter Ridge Sets Scoring Season-High Against Mallard Creek

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Porter Ridge). Everything went their way against the Mallard Creek Mavericks on Wednesday as Porter Ridge made off with a 16-1 win. The Pirates have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Mavericks, too.

Lexi Johnson made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. What's more, she posted four strikeouts, the most she's had since back in March of 2024. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-2. That run was her first of the season.

In other batting news, Brynn Gaddy was a standout: she went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run and three RBI. Harleigh Hopkins was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-3.

Porter Ridge was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in three consecutive contests.

Porter Ridge's victory bumped their record up to 2-4. As for Mallard Creek, their loss dropped their record down to 2-5.

Porter Ridge wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, a 10-4 win against South Mecklenburg on the 14th. As for Mallard Creek, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, an 18-2 defeat against Hopewell on the 13th.
