Soccer Game Preview: Sylmar vs. Dr. Maya Angelou Community

The Sylmar Spartans will take on the Dr. Maya Angelou Community Phoenix at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Sylmar's last three matchups have been decided by no more than a goal, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

Sylmar is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Saturday. Their defense stepped up to hand Bernstein a 1-0 shutout. The result kept the Spartans happy, as they haven't lost a game since January 29th.

Meanwhile, Dr. Maya Angelou Community had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 2.6 goals) and they went ahead and made it six on Saturday. They blew past the Toreadors 3-0. The result was nothing new for the Phoenix, who have now won eight contests by three goals or more so far this season.

Dr. Maya Angelou Community pushed their record up to 14-1 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only given up one goal over those four games. As for Sylmar, they are on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 15 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-3 record this season.

Everything went Sylmar's way against Dr. Maya Angelou Community when the teams last played back in February of 2019, as Sylmar made off with a 4-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Sylmar since the team won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
