Baseball Game Preview: Scotland County Tigers vs. Canton Tigers

Scotland County is 2-8 against Canton since March of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. Scotland County will host Canton at 5:00 p.m. The two teams are strolling into their contests after big wins in their previous games.

Canton will be up against a hot Scotland County squad: the team just extended their winning streak to three. The Tigers were the clear victors by an 11-3 margin over North Shelby on Tuesday.

Vincent Dale was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing six innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Dale was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with one triple and two RBI. That triple marked the first that he hit this season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Logan Buford, who went 1-for-4 with four RBI, one run, and one double. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Carter Clatt, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-5.

Scotland County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as North Shelby only managed three hits.

Meanwhile, Canton's rock-solid pitchers showed up for the team's third consecutive shutout on Wednesday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Knox County a 10-0 shutout. Considering the Tigers have won five games by more than six runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Canton's win bumped their record up to 6-2. As for Scotland County, they now have a winning record of 4-3.

Scotland County came out on top in a nail-biter against Canton in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, sneaking past 7-6. Does Scotland County have another victory up their sleeve, or will Canton turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
