Baseball Recap: Thomas Nelson Takes a Loss

Thomas Nelson extended their losing streak to four on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 11-9 in the process. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 1-0 heartbreaker at the hands of the Hart County Raiders. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Raiders this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 8-1 back in March.

As for Hart County, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 17-19-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games.

For Hart County's part, not much got past Bryson Huff, who gave up just two hits to keep Thomas Nelson off the board. Huff also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because the Raiders are 5-2-1 when he allows at most three earned runs, but 12-17 otherwise.

At the plate, Hart County saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Austin Martin, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases. Another was Gage Owens, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Thomas Nelson will face off against North Bullitt at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Hart County, they will challenge Bardstown at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
