Basketball Recap: Falcon Piles Up the Points Against Mitchell

Falcon won the last time they faced Mitchell and things went their way on Wednesday too. The Falcon Falcons really took it to the Mitchell Marauders for the full four quarters, racking up a 60-18 win. Given the Falcons' advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 103rd, while the Marauders are ranked 312th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Falcon was led to victory by Alexis Hunter and Amelia Avdem. Hunter posted seven points along with eight rebounds and four steals, while Avdem went 5 for 8 en route to 11 points and five boards. Hunter has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Elyse Gipson, who earned four points in addition to six boards and three steals.

Falcon smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 19 consecutive matches dating back to last season.

Several Marauders players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Delilah Epps, who scored two points and five rebounds. The dominant performance also gave Epps a new career-high in blocks (two).

Falcon pushed their record up to 9-5 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 31.2 points. As for Mitchell, their loss dropped their record down to 3-12.

Falcon didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 40-39 defeat against Sierra on the 31st. As for Mitchell, they have also already played their next contest, a 35-21 loss against Sand Creek on the 31st.
