Baseball Game Preview: Vanlue Wildcats vs. Riverdale Falcons

Vanlue is 0-5 against Riverdale since April of 2019 but things could change on Wednesday. The Wildcats will host the Falcons at 5:00 p.m. Vanlue has given up an average of 14.7 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Vanlue is headed into Wednesday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their 20th straight game dating back to last season on Monday. They lost 16-0 to McComb.

Meanwhile, Riverdale entered their tilt with Pandora-Gilboa on Monday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They were the clear victors by a 13-2 margin over the Rockets. The result was nothing new for the Falcons, who have now won three contests by ten runs or more so far this season.

Evan Reiter was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. He is becoming a predictor of Riverdale's success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is 4-2 (and 1-2 when he doesn't). Reiter was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in May of 2024.

In other batting news, Riverdale let Kydin Reed and Jackson Armrose run wild. Reed went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI, while Armrose got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs and two RBI. Those two RBI gave Armrose a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Owen Karcher, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

Riverdale always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .564. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Pandora-Gilboa only posted an OBP of .227.

Riverdale now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Vanlue, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-9.
