Softball Recap: Sumter Picks Up Third Consecutive Victory

Sumter took a seven-run loss the last time they faced off against Lugoff-Elgin, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Sumter Gamecocks won by a run and slipped past the Lugoff-Elgin Demons 2-1. The win was familiar territory for the Gamecocks, who have now won three contests in a row.

Lillie Ivey spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on one hit and racked up 16 Ks. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in strikeouts.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Ariana Evans, who scored a run and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-3. She also hit a double, marking her first of the season.

Sumter's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-3-1. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to strikeouts: they averaged an imposing 11 strikeouts in those games compared to only 2.44 in the others. As for Lugoff-Elgin, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-7.
