Valley Center took a seven-run defeat the last time they faced off against South, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Hornets never let the Cougars get on the board and left with a 2-0 win on Tuesday. For the Hornets, this counts as revenge for the 13-6 victory the Cougars walked away with the last time they faced one another back in May of 2022.

Not much got past Aydan Hyson, who gave up just four hits and racked up six Ks to keep South off the board.

At the plate, Valley Center saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Connor Meyer, who went 1-for-2 with one triple and two RBI. Those two RBI gave Meyer a new career-high.

Valley Center's win bumped their record up to 11-9. As for South, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 12-7.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Valley Center beat the Cougars by a score of 1-0 later that day.
