Softball Game Preview: Mesa Verde Mavericks vs. Woodland Christian Cardinals

For the second straight game, Mesa Verde will face off against Woodland Christian. The Mavericks will head out to square off against the Cardinals at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Mesa Verde is coming into the matchup on a five-game losing streak.

Mesa Verde came up short against Woodland Christian on Tuesday, falling 21-1.

For Woodland Christian's part, Chayse Anderson made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. Anderson was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Reese Hutchins was a standout: she got on base in all five of her plate appearances with four runs, one double, and one RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Adison Huiskens, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs and two RBI.

Woodland Christian always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .705. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mesa Verde only posted an OBP of .318.

Woodland Christian's record now sits at 18-3. As for Mesa Verde, their loss dropped their record down to 6-8.

Thursday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Mesa Verde hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .355. However, it's not like Woodland Christian struggles in that department as they've averaged .463. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
