Football Recap: Mazama Comes Up Short

Mazama had lost five straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Friday they dropped down to 1-4 to make it six. They took a blow against the Marshfield Pirates, falling 49-6. The Vikings were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Pirates apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in October of 2024.

Kellen Lee threw for 135 yards on 12 of 22 attempts. Rison McDonald was his top target, picking up 98 receiving yards. On the ground, Brody Mahon rushed for 67 yards.

As for Marshfield, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 5-0. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four contests by 23 points or more this season.

Marshfield's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jaden Tice, who rushed for 157 yards and one touchdown on only 12 carries, and also picked up 42 receiving yards. Those 157 rushing yards gave Tice a new career-high. Another signal caller making a difference was Enoch Niblett, who threw for 236 yards and a pair of TDs while completing 82.4% of his passes.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Mazama will face off against rival Hidden Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Marshfield is set to take on their familiar foe Ashland at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams might be coming in a bit winded given these two teams combined for 998 yards in their previous games.
