Basketball Recap: South Brunswick takes loss despite strong efforts from Kaleb Young and Jayden Daniels

Basketball Recap: South Brunswick Cougars vs. New Hanover Wildcats

The South Brunswick Cougars's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their ninth straight defeat. They were dealt a 68-32 defeat at the hands of New Hanover. South Brunswick was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 52-14.

Jayden Daniels and Kaleb Young certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Daniels scored 12 points, while Young scored seven points. Young is trending in the right direction, as he's improved his point production for three games straight.

South Brunswick struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as New Hanover pulled down 11 offensive rebounds.

Leading New Hanover to victory were Kam Witherspoon and Jazir Wright-McGhee. Witherspoon scored 12 points along with six rebounds, while Wright-McGhee scored 16 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Wright-McGhee has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Nolan Billings, who scored seven points along with eight rebounds and two steals.

South Brunswick has not been sharp recently as the team's lost 13 of their last 14 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-17 record this season. As for New Hanover, the victory for they keeps them at an undefeated 20-0.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. South Brunswick will face off against the Buccaneers at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Laney has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 210 points over their last three games. As for New Hanover, they will head out on the road to face off against the Scorpions at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. North Brunswick is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
