Basketball Recap: Crawfordsville Picks Up Third Consecutive Win

Crawfordsville extended their winning streak to three on Thursday, bumping them up to 11-5. They enjoyed a cozy 72-55 win over the Western Boone Stars. For the Athenians, this counts as revenge for the 58-53 victory the Stars walked away with the last time they faced one another back in February of 2025.

Crawfordsville's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Johnovan Smith, who went 9-for-16 on his way to 21 points along with seven rebounds and seven steals. Smith has become a key player for the Athenians: the team is undefeated when he posts at least five steals, but 4-5 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Mason McCarty, who shot 40% from the field to rack up 25 points and six boards.

As for Western Boone, their loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 7-9. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last six times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Western Boone lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Quinn Westerfeld, who almost dropped a double-double with 16 points and nine rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Luke LaGrange, who posted 12 points.

Crawfordsville wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 65-46 defeat against Greencastle on the 7th. As for Western Boone, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 58-51 victory against Clinton Central on the 7th.
