Preview: Torrington Raiders vs. Oxford Wolverines

The Torrington Raiders will be playing at home against the Oxford Wolverines at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.

Last Friday, Torrington was beaten by Naugatuck 42-6. While losing is never fun, Torrington can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Connecticut football rankings (they are ranked 92nd, while Naugatuck is ranked 21st).

Meanwhile, Oxford put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They had just enough and edged Crosby out 23-20.

Oxford can attribute much of their success to Matthew Mcguire, who rushed for 81 yards and a touchdown on only seven carries, and also picked up 62 receiving yards. Mcguire was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 64 yards.

Another reason for the win was Oxford's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for five sacks. Crosby's QB won't forget Brando Fletter anytime soon given Fletter sacked him five times.

Torrington's defeat dropped their record down to 4-3. As for Oxford, their win was their sixth straight at home (dating back to last season), bumping their overall record up to 7-0.

Everything came up roses for Torrington against Oxford in their previous matchup back in October of 2015 as the team secured a 34-7 victory. Will Torrington repeat their success, or does Oxford have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
