Softball Recap: York County Tech Takes a Loss

York County Tech extended their losing streak to four on Tuesday, dropping them down to 3-7. They lost 12-0 to the Biglerville Canners. The game marked the first time this year in which the Spartans were not able to get on the board.

As for Biglerville, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 7-3. Give their pitching crew some credit: that's the team's fourth straight shutout.

For Biglerville's part, Sydney McCleaf made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out ten over five innings pitched. McCleaf has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jocelyn Miller, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Abigail McGlaughlin, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. York County Tech will host Hanover at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Nighthawks have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 16 runs per game on average), something the Spartans will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Biglerville, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Littlestown at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Canners 3.6, the Thunderbolts 4) so any runs scored will be well earned.
