Softball Game Preview: Jackson-Milton Bluejays vs. Mathews Mustangs

The Jackson-Milton Bluejays will challenge the Mathews Mustangs at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Jackson-Milton is coming into the contest hot, having won their last four games.

If Jackson-Milton beats Mathews with eight runs on Monday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two games with that exact score. The Bluejays won by a run and slipped past Columbiana 8-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Bluejays have posted since April 22nd.

Brena McBeth made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up five earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April of 2025. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Katie Byers, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. She is on a roll when it comes to hits, as she's now got three or more in each of the last five games she's played. Another player making a difference was Ivy McBeth, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.

Meanwhile, Mathews didn't have quite enough to beat Pymatuning Valley on Saturday and fell 14-13. The Mustangs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Mathews' defeat dropped their record down to 14-13. As for Jackson-Milton, their win bumped their record up to 16-6.

Jackson-Milton skirted past Mathews 5-3 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Will the Bluejays repeat their success, or do the Mustangs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
