Softball Recap: Newport Takes a Loss

Newport was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their ninth straight defeat. They lost 14-7 to the Walnut Ridge Bobcats. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bobcats this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 15-0 back in March.

Madison Steward and Sophie Haigwood stepped up to the plate in a big way. Steward went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run, while Haigwood went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Lilana Ramirez, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

Newport's loss dropped their record down to 2-10. As for Walnut Ridge, their victory bumped their record up to 8-5.

Coincidentally, Newport and Walnut Ridge will both be playing Rivercrest the next time they take the field. The Bobcats will host the Colts at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, while the Greyhounds will head out to face them at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
