Softball Game Preview: Immaculate Mustangs vs. Holy Cross Crusaders

The Immaculate Mustangs will take on the Holy Cross Crusaders at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. Immaculate is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.

Immaculate took a loss when they played away from home on Wednesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They put the hurt on Joel Barlow with a sharp 21-9 win. The Mustangs haven't had any issues with the Falcons recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.

Maddie Costa made a splash while hitting and pitching. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Costa was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with four runs and one RBI. Those four runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jessica Sposato, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, seven RBI, and three runs. Those seven RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Zoe Delepine, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with three runs and three RBI.

Immaculate always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .707. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Holy Cross fell victim to St. Paul Catholic and their airtight pitching crew on Friday. They lost 12-0 to the Falcons. That makes it the first time this season the Crusaders have let down their home crowd.

Immaculate's win was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 2-4. As for Holy Cross, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-4.
