Riverside is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of West Virginia's top teams: Hoover, who was ranked 11th at the time (Riverside was ranked 25th). The Warriors fell 6-2 to the Huskies on Thursday.
Riverside saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was McKinley Clark, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one double.
Meanwhile, Woodrow Wilson had to endure a four-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 10-9 victory over Oak Hill on Tuesday. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Flying Eagles' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.
Aubrey Smallwood was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 11 batters over four innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Shailee Sexton, who went 2-for-5 with four runs, one double, and one RBI. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Hadley Reott was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.
Woodrow Wilson's win bumped their record up to 12-13. As for Riverside, their defeat dropped their record down to 16-9.
Woodrow Wilson's pitching crew better be locked in on Wednesday. Riverside hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.6 home runs per game. It's a different story for Woodrow Wilson, though, as they've been averaging only 0 home runs. Will they be able to keep Riverside in the park?
