Softball Recap: Watsonville Wildcatz vs. Monterey Dores

Watsonville had lost four straight on the road, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 11-10 to make it five. They lost 10-1 to the Monterey Dores. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Dores this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 17-6 back in April.

Watsonville saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ruiz Bella, who went 1-for-3 with one run.

As for Monterey, they have been performing well recently as they've won 11 of their last 13 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-3-1 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games.

On Monterey's side, Ella Myers made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and only one walk). Myers has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Denae Lee, who fired off two home runs and three RBI while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Coming up, Watsonville will welcome North Salinas at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Wildcatz are facing the Vikings at the right time seeing as the Vikings are stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Monterey, they will face off against Palma at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
