Football Recap: Notre Dame Comes Up Short

Notre Dame played a tough matchup on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were dealt a 38-7 defeat at the hands of the Greenwich Cardinals. While losing is never fun, the Green Knights can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Connecticut football rankings (they are ranked 35th, while the Cardinals are ranked fourth).

Notre Dame didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Cody Wieland and Jace Fredette.

Hector Lopez(C) was a one-man wrecking crew For Greenwich. as he rushed for 144 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 7.6 yards per carry. Lopez(C) is crushing it when it comes to rushing yards: he's rushed for at least 124 every time he's taken the field this season. Another rusher making a difference was Jack Kelly(C), who rushed for 17 yards and a pair of scores.

Notre Dame is on a four-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-3. As for Greenwich, the victory (which was their sixth in a row dating back to last season) raised their record to 3-0.

Notre Dame wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 28-27 loss against Law on the 3rd. As for Greenwich, they will venture away from home to challenge Westhill at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. This will be the Cardinals' first chance to prove their worth in the conference.
