Softball Recap: Friday's Defeat Ends Liberty's Winning Streak

Liberty dropped their record down to 24-6 on Friday, which also ended the team's seven-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Havana Ducks by a score of 7-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Eagles have suffered since April 12th.

Liberty saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Claire Obert, who went 1-for-2 with one run.

As for Havana, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 23-3-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games.

On Havana's side, Maddie Howerter spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four runs (all of which were unearned) on four hits and racked up eight Ks. Howerter has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Kaydi Miller, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. Jenna Brooks also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.

As of now, neither Liberty nor Havana have any future games scheduled.
