Preview: Evansville Central Bears vs. Mt. Vernon Wildcats
Evansville Central has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will take on the Mt. Vernon Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Evansville Central knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past three matchups -- so hopefully Mt. Vernon likes a good challenge.
Evansville Central scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Saturday. They strolled past Tecumseh with points to spare, taking the game 78-61. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Evansville Central relied on the efforts of Mimi White, who scored 19 points along with seven rebounds and three steals, and Mya Skelton, who went 6 for 9 from beyond the arc en route to 23 points and 1 assists. Those 19 points set a new season-high mark for her. Another player making a difference was Lindsey Laine, who scored eight points along with eight rebounds and six assists.
Meanwhile, Mt. Vernon took a serious blow against Washington on Saturday, falling 60-16. Mt. Vernon has struggled against Washington recently, as their contest on Saturday was their eighth consecutive lost matchup.
Evansville Central pushed their record up to 11-2 with that victory, which was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season. They've been dominating during the matchups in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 25.55 points. As for Mt. Vernon, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-10.
Everything came up roses for Evansville Central against Mt. Vernon in their previous meeting back in December of 2022 as the squad secured a 64-22 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Evansville Central since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
