Softball Game Preview: South Mountain Jaguars vs. Camelback Spartans

For the second straight game, South Mountain will face off against Camelback. The Jaguars will head out on the road to take on the Spartans at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday. South Mountain is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.4 runs per game this season.

South Mountain made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Camelback, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Jaguars put the hurt on the Spartans with a sharp 20-2 win on Monday. The victory was some much needed relief for the Jaguars as it spelled an end to their seven-game losing streak.

Alexia Ramirez made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits over five innings pitched. Those hits were her first of the season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, four RBI, and two doubles.

In other batting news, Amaya Felix was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in RBI (two). Another player making a difference was Mariah Salas, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

South Mountain's win was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-4 and their overall record up to 8-11. As for Camelback, they dropped their record down to 1-15 with the defeat, which was their eighth straight on the road.
