Volleyball Game Preview: Camarillo Scorpions vs. Mira Costa Mustangs

The Camarillo Scorpions will head out on the road to face off against the Mira Costa Mustangs at 2:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are coming into the matchup red-hot, with Camarillo sitting on three straight wins and Mira Costa on six.

Camarillo proved they can win big last Wednesday (they won by three) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Royal 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Scorpions have posted against the Highlanders since September 21, 2021.

Camarillo wouldn't go down easily and took Royal into a fifth set where they got it done with a three-point win. The final score came out to 18-25, 25-22, 24-26, 25-16, 15-12.

Camarillo relied on the efforts of Monet Taylor, who had 15 digs and four aces, and Skky Rogers, who had 20 digs and eight assists. Those 15 digs gave Taylor a new career-high.

They weren't the only good servers: Camarillo was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 11 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least 11 aces in five consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Mira Costa is ranked highly in their home state and on Wednesday they took on another highly ranked team in the form of Casteel. The Mustangs walked away with a 3-1 victory over the Colts.

Camarillo's record now sits at 12-5. As for Mira Costa, their record is now 16-7.
