Softball Game Preview: Walton-Verona Bearcats vs. Dixie Heights Colonels

The Walton-Verona Bearcats will face off against the Dixie Heights Colonels at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Dixie Heights took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Walton-Verona, who comes in off a win.

Walton-Verona is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Holmes a 17-0 shutout on Tuesday. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Bearcats as it put an end to their seven-game losing streak.

Sophie Lepping was a standout: she got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Demi Lavon, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, one run, and one double.

Walton-Verona always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .773. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Dixie Heights came up short against Cooper on Tuesday, falling 13-1. The Colonels have struggled against the Jaguars recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost meeting.

Dixie Heights' defeat dropped their record down to 2-10. As for Walton-Verona, their win bumped their record up to 4-13.

Walton-Verona might still be hurting after the 10-0 loss they got from Dixie Heights when the teams last played back in March of 2017. Can the Bearcats avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
