Baseball Game Preview: Alexander Central Cougars vs. Watauga Pioneers

The Alexander Central Cougars will head out to face off against the Watauga Pioneers at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Alexander Central will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.

Alexander Central's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They walked away with a 3-0 victory over Ashe County.

Alexander Central got a great performance from Dillion Church as he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over 6.1 innings pitched. Church has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Sawyer Chapman-Mays was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. That home run marked the first that he launched this season.

Meanwhile, Watauga suffered their biggest loss since March 14th on Saturday. They lost 12-4 to Weddington. The Pioneers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Dillon Zaragoza and Maddox Greene did some serious damage despite the final result: Zaragoza went a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI and one double, while Greene scored two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Alexander Central's win bumped their record up to 10-6. As for Watauga, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-9.

Alexander Central skirted past Watauga 5-4 when the teams last played back in March. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cougars since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
