Recap: Montezuma-Cortez Panthers vs. Ignacio Bobcats
There's no place like home for the Montezuma-Cortez Panthers, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road last Wednesday. They walked away with a 51-40 win over Ignacio on Friday. For Montezuma-Cortez, this counts as revenge for the 46-31 defeat Ignacio walked away with the last time they faced one another back in February of 2023.
Markylla Jones had an outrageously good game as she scored 12 points along with eight rebounds and six steals. She also posted two+ blocks for the first time this season. Savannah Haselroth was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with two steals.
Several Bobcats players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Darlynn Mendoza, who scored 15 points along with three steals. Another player making a difference was Soly Cosio, who scored six points along with nine rebounds.
Even though they lost, Ignacio smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Montezuma-Cortez only pulled down seven offensive rebounds.
Montezuma-Cortez's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-7. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.0 points per game. As for Ignacio, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-10.
Montezuma-Cortez and Pagosa Springs will face off at 2:30 p.m. on February 10th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Pagosa Springs will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something Montezuma-Cortez surely won't give up without a fight. As for Ignacio, they and Centauri will face off at 2:30 p.m. on February 10th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully Centauri focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Friday.
