Softball Recap: Carterville's Victory on Monday Extends Winning Streak to Eight

Carterville had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt Massac County on Monday. The Lions blew past the Patriots 12-2. The Lions might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine contests by six runs or more this season.

The team relied heavily on Savannah Gibbs, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Colbie Bennett was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two doubles and one RBI.

Carterville always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .516. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Massac County only posted an OBP of .368.

The win (which was Carterville's eighth in a row) raised their record to 12-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.9 runs on average over those games. As for Massac County, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last seven matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-9 record this season.

Carterville didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 15-0 win against Murphysboro on the 15th. As for Massac County, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 13-10 victory against Herrin on the 22nd.
