Baseball Game Preview: Perquimans County Pirates vs. Northeastern Eagles

The Perquimans County Pirates will square off against the Northeastern Eagles at 10:00 a.m. on Monday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Perquimans County saw some tournament action on Saturday. They lost 14-3 to Camden County. The defeat continues a trend for the Pirates in their meetings with the Bruins: they've now lost four in a row.

Ben Brown was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs. Another player making a difference was Josh Smith, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double.

Meanwhile, Northeastern scored the most runs they've had this season on Saturday, but it wasn't enough. They came up short against Gates County, falling 14-8.

Peyton Paris made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Devon Shreaves was another key player, earning one run and two stolen bases.

Northeastern's loss dropped their record down to 1-6. As for Perquimans County, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-8.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Perquimans County has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.9 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Northeastern struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 4.6 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.

Everything went Perquimans County's way against Northeastern in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Perquimans County made off with a 17-0 win. Will the Pirates repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
