Baseball Recap: Wheeler Snaps Five-Game Streak of Losses at Home

Wheeler had lost five games at home, but after bumping their record up to 9-14 on Tuesday that streak is in the rearview. They were the clear victors by a 9-1 margin over the Westville Blackhawks. The Bearcats not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since April 25th (when they won 16-4).

Caleb McLaughlin spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on two hits and racked up nine Ks. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Wheeler is 3-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 6-13 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Nick Bravo was incredible, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one double. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April. Freddy Gaetz was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base.

As for Westville, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-16 record this season. As for they, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-16.

On Westville's side, they saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ryder Becker, who went 1-for-3 with one double.

Looking ahead, Wheeler will head out to face off against Glenn at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Westville, they will square off against Hammond Academy of Science & Tech at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
