Baseball Recap: Stratton Starts Season with Victory on the Road

Stratton had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They blew past the Springfield Longhorns 9-3 on Tuesday. The win continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Longhorns: they've now won six in a row.

Grady Steerman made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off ten hits. Steerman was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-5. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March of 2024.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brody Webb, who scored three runs and stole four bases while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March of 2024. Gage Levin was another key player, getting on base in five of his six plate appearances with one triple, one double, and one RBI.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Stratton is set to challenge their familiar foe Granada at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Springfield will square off against rival Cheyenne Wells at 3:00 p.m. on Friday.
