It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but East Nicolaus had no problem doing just that on Saturday. They never let the San Leandro Pirates get on the board and left with a 4-0 win. The victory was nothing new for the Spartans as they're now sitting on nine straight.
Stevie Knight made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in 14 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024.
Knight wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Gabby Sotelo, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base. Lily Smith also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
East Nicolaus pushed their record up to 24-6 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.5 runs on average over those games. As for San Leandro, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 23-9.
As of now, neither East Nicolaus nor the Pirates have any future games scheduled.
