C.B. Aycock is preparing for their first conference matchup of the season on Tuesday. They will look to defend their home field against the Hunt Warriors at 6:30 p.m. The two teams are strolling into their matchups after big wins in their previous games.
Having struggled with six defeats in a row dating back to last season, C.B. Aycock turned things around against Rosewood on Thursday. They blew past the Eagles 9-1. The Golden Falcons' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Braxton Toler made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out six batters over 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and only one walk). What's more, he gave up only one walk, the fewest he's had since back in March of 2024. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI.
In other pitching news, Beckett Cruse looked comfortable as he pitched 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one hit any time he's pitched this season.
Back at the plate, Caden Cox was a standout: he scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-2. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024. Janeson Steele was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, Hunt waltzed into their game on Monday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They never let the Bruins get on the board and left with a 19-0 win. With that victory, the Warriors brought their scoring average up to 6.8 runs per game.
Like C.B. Aycock, Hunt also got a great game from a two-way player: Joe Glover. Throwing, Glover tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Will Doll struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). At bat, Glover scored a run while going 3-for-4, while Doll went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. That run marked the first that Glover scored this season.
In other pitching news, Tyson Foster looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits.
Back at the plate, Hunt got a massive performance out of Trevor Moore, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI and one run. Another player making a difference was Zach Meeks, who scored two runs while going 1-for-2.
Hunt hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in four consecutive contests.
C.B. Aycock's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-3. As for Hunt, the victory got them back to even at 3-3.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. C.B. Aycock has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Hunt struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.5 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
