Basketball Recap: Easley Green Wave vs. Greenwood Eagles
The Easley Green Wave were the 48-30 winner over the Greenwood Eagles when they last played one another back in February of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Easley took a 41-32 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Eagles on Thursday. While losing is never fun, Easley can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 91st, while the Eagles are ranked 18th).
Several Green Wave players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Kimbel Leach, who scored nine points along with seven rebounds. Anaya Sligh was another key contributor, scoring four points along with five rebounds.
Easley struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Greenwood found their leader in underclassman Danielle Oliver, who scored 13 points along with eight steals. Oliver has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last 18 times she's played. Another player making a difference was Ty Johnson, who scored nine points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Easley has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-14 record this season. As for Greenwood, their victory bumped their record up to 18-4.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Easley will take on the Blue Flame at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Pickens has six straight wins, the Green Wave have three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field. As for Greenwood, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Bulldogs at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Berea is no doubt hoping to put an end to a six-game streak of away losses.
