Baseball Recap: Kearney Victorious

Kearney was not the first on the board on Wednesday, but they got there more often. They walked away with a 5-1 win over the Standing Bear Grizzlies. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Bearcats.

Derrick Nonhof spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on two hits and racked up six Ks. Those six strikeouts set a new season-high mark for him.

On the hitting side, Kearney got a big performance out of Kole Throckmorton, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most RBI Throckmorton has posted over his last 14 matchups. Another player making a difference was Bryce Andersen, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one run and one double.

Kearney's record is now 17-9. As for Standing Bear, with the defeat, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 7-14.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Kearney will host Hastings at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Standing Bear, they will be playing at home against Malcolm at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Grizzlies' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Clippers have averaged an impressive 9.7 runs per game this season.
