Softball Game Preview: Marquette Crusaders vs. Princeville Princes

The Marquette Crusaders will head out on the road to face off against the Princeville Princes at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Marquette will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.

On Thursday, Marquette was able to grind out a solid victory over Amboy, taking the game 6-3.

The team relied heavily on Makayla Backos, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and one stolen base. Lily Brewer also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.

Meanwhile, Princeville suffered their closest defeat since March 27, 2024 on Wednesday. They fell just short of Monmouth-Roseville by a score of 9-7.

Mekaya Cihla made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Princeville's loss dropped their record down to 2-2. As for Marquette, their win was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-1.

Marquette took their victory against Princeville in their previous meeting back in March of 2019 by a conclusive 11-2. Will Marquette repeat their success, or does Princeville has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
