Baseball Recap: Canterbury School Snags Eighth Victory in Last Nine Games

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Canterbury School ultimately got the result they hoped for on Saturday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Suffield Academy Tigers 2-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Saints have posted since April 30th.

Carter Heagle made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple, one stolen base, and one double.

In other pitching news, Jack Jensen tossed a big game, striking out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April.

Canterbury School is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Suffield Academy, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-8.

Looking ahead, Canterbury School will welcome Cheshire Academy at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday. The Cats will roll in looking for their seventh straight victory, something the Saints surely won't give up without a fight. Suffield Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
