After each having a week off, the Tesoro Titans and the Newport Harbor Sailors will shake off the cobwebs and square off against one another at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both are strolling into their matchups after big wins in their previous games.

Tesoro is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They simply couldn't be stopped last Friday as they easily beat Cypress 42-7 at home. Given the Titans' advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 106th, while the Centurions are ranked 246th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Tesoro got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Tanner Silber out in front who picked up 124 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Nic Brubaker was another key rusher, rushing for 118 yards and a touchdown on only eight carries.

Tesoro's defense was in the mix too, especially the secondary: they snagged two passes before it was all said and done. The picks came courtesy of Selasi Degbor and Adam Achour. Luke Travis was another major factor on D, picking up three sacks and making four total tackles.

Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Tesoro was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 332 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Newport Harbor had to endure a five-game losing streak dating back to last season, but that streak is no more. They blew past St. Augustine 28-7 last Friday.

Jake Meer looked great while leading his team to the win, throwing for 218 yards and three touchdowns while completing 84% of his passes. Jackson Stremick helped Meer out on the ground, rushing for 71 yards and a touchdown, while also picking up 53 receiving yards.

Tesoro now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Newport Harbor, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-4.

Friday's game might be decided in the trenches. Tesoro has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 161.2 rushing yards per game. It's a different story for Newport Harbor, though, as they've been averaging only 67.2. How will they fare against such a dominant running game?

Tesoro couldn't quite finish off Newport Harbor in their previous matchup back in August of 2023 and fell 17-14. Can Tesoro avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
