Softball Game Preview: Charlotte Catholic Cougars vs. Providence Panthers

Charlotte Catholic has won three straight games at home, while Providence has won three straight on the road, but those streaks won't matter much on Friday. A feisty cat fight will be fought as Charlotte Catholic Cougars challenge Providence Panthers at 4:30 p.m. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

Charlotte Catholic proved they can win big on Friday (they won by ten) and on Wednesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out Fort Mill 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Cougars have posted since May 11, 2024.

Meanwhile, Providence had just enough and edged out East Mecklenburg 7-5 on Tuesday.

Providence got a great performance from Averie Jones as she struck out seven batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off two hits. That's the fewest hits Jones has allowed since back in April of 2024.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Pheonix Scott, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Emerson McAllister, who scored two runs and stole three bases while going 3-for-4.

Charlotte Catholic has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.6 runs on average over those games. Providence's win bumped their record up to 12-1.
