Basketball Recap: Wakefield Wolverines vs. Knightdale Knights
The Wakefield Wolverines had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 23.3 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Tuesday. They came out on top against Knightdale by a score of 53-42. Given Wakefield's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 95th, while the Knights are ranked 245th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Wakefield was led to victory by Nicole Amend and Lyla Bagwell. Amend scored ten points along with three steals, while Bagwell scored 15 points along with three steals. Bagwell has been hot recently, having posted three or more steals the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Sydney Conti, who scored six points along with seven steals.
Despite the loss, Knightdale still got an impressive performance from Ja?Kiyah Moore, who almost dropped a double-double on 15 points and nine rebounds. Moore continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Abigail Taylor, who scored eight points.
Wakefield is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 14-5 record this season. As for Knightdale, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 10-9.
Wakefield will head out on the road to take on the Rams at 6:15 p.m. on Friday. Rolesville has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 315 points over their last five contests. As for Knightdale, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against the Cougars at 6:15 p.m. Hopefully Wake Forest focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 on Tuesday.
