Baseball Preview: Williams Bulldogs vs. Person Rockets
The Williams Bulldogs will take on the Person Rockets at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The last four games Williams has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
Having struggled with ten defeats in a row, Williams turned things around against Orange on Friday. They won by a run and slipped past the Panthers 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Bulldogs have posted since April 12, 2024.
Meanwhile, Person had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 3 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by a 19-1 margin over the Rams. The Rockets might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matches by six runs or more this season.
Ian Downey made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. In other batting news, Person got a massive performance out of Keeghan Holmes, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Brady Holmes was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one double.
Person always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .676. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Northeast Guilford only posted an OBP of .214.
Williams' win was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-9 and their overall record up to 6-10. As for Person, their victory bumped their record up to 15-5.
